Rachael has been dancing at Divine since 2012. When she started she wasn't exercising at all, and found that it was the joy of dance that motivated her to continue working to improve her fitness. It's that same delight in movement that she wants to share with other women, whatever their current relationship with their bodies.
I’m from rural Virginia. We didn’t actually live in a town!
Why do you love Divine Movement?
The warm, supportive community. I love being a part of a group of women who are passionate about the same thing and build each other up.
What do you consider your teaching style?
I want students to feel good! For me, this means both helping them explore movement so that they can sink into it and helping them build strength and technique so they can advance technically. There’s nothing like the first time you work a trick into your dance in a way that feels smooth and natural and I genuinely believe every woman can achieve that.
What music is on your “Divine” playlist right now?
Phenomenal Woman (salute Remix) – Laura Mvula
شيطان (Untitled) – Wafia
Aquarius – Tinashe
Movement – Hozier
Falling – Jack Garratt
drink i’m sippin on – yaeji
What is the farthest you have been from home?
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I went through phases, but astronaut and entomologist were probably the longest lived.
Favorite article of clothing to dance in?
I tend to get cold easily, so I love dancing in layers, especially a hoodie and sweatpants.
You are already enough.
