“This is a place where you don’t have to be better than another woman to see yourself as good. Enjoy your own progress and your own body. If you do that, you’ll find sensuality and emotional rawness that you were probably holding back for the sake of doing things “right”. So let go of your expectations and grab hold of yourself.”

Your motto or favorite quote: “Your body is not a temple: It’s an amusement park. Enjoy the ride” – Anthony Bourdain
How long have you been pole dancing at Divine? 4 years
Did you have any previous dance or fitness training before starting pole? I was so out of shape! One ballet class in college, and one yoga class that I spent entirely in corpse pose.
What made you decide to take pole dancing classes? I’ve always loved exotic dancing and my inner exhibitionist was singing when I saw Divine’s advertisement. I had no idea what to expect, but I bought a 101 series without even trying a workshop. It was instant love.
Favorite class? (spins, inversions, or boudoir), and why? Always boudoir. I shied away from boudoir for my first couple years, I didn’t think I could be a real dancer. I heard you had to dance as elements and colors of your emotion and I was terrified! But once I tried it, I became addicted. Now I want to stand in front of my favorite ladies, dance all alone to my favorite song, and freestyle my heart away. It gives me strength and life in ways nothing else has.
What is it that you LOVE about pole dancing at Divine? It forces me to get out of my head, something I have never been able to do on my own or even with meditation. It makes me realize that I don’t have to be the better than anyone else to be THE BEST at what I’m doing. I love feeling strong when I climb and spin, and I love feeling powerful when I dance in front of a mirror, or take a whole dance just to stand up. I love how it makes me feel, and the high follows me all day.
Platforms or legwarmers? Both! I have some thigh high boots to bring out soon…
What are you currently working on technically? I’ve learned most spins on my left side due to a previous injury, so now I’m working on one handed. And as always, climbing!
What are you working on artistically? Enjoying every second and following my body.
What is your favorite move? Dragonfly
What is in your pole bag (ex: grip aid, journal, etc)? Lingerie, a blindfold, heels, legwarmers, kneepads, grip aid, and a kind bar.
Do you have a favorite song to pole dance to? Thunderstruck- AC/DC
We LOVE music at Divine. What 3 songs would be featured on the soundtrack to YOUR life, and why? I am the Highway-Audioslave, when I hear it i feel myself rising up from abuse and pain.
Simple Man-Shinedown, this song is every time in my life when I have put too much on myself and force myself to refocus and shine in the things I can do
Elderly Woman Behind a Counter in a Small Town- Pearl Jam, my life is often confusing and bewildering and I could hear this song during all those uncertain times.
Guilty pleasure: Fast food
Final Question: Any inspirational advice you would like to share with new polers? Let go. Don’t push to do every trick, don’t rush your journey, and don’t compare yourself to others. This is a place where you don’t have to be better than another woman to see yourself as good. Enjoy your own progress and your own body. If you do that, you’ll find sensuality and emotional rawness that you were probably holding back for the sake of doing things “right”. So let go of your expectations and grab hold of yourself.
