“…I love what Divine has given to me. I can’t even explain how much more confident I am and how comfortable I can be in my own skin now. The unconditional acceptance and friendship that I feel from everyone at Divine has definitely changed how I see myself and how I define my flaws.”

Your motto or favorite quote: I have a hard time not comparing myself to others and seeing the worst in myself. A while ago at a workshop we were all told that ‘their beauty does not take away from your beauty’. I interchange the word beauty with power, strength, and talent as I need to.
How long have you been pole dancing at Divine? I have been at Divine for just over 2 years now. Can’t believe how fast time goes!
Did you have any previous dance or fitness training before starting pole? I have been dancing since I was three (ballet, tap, jazz and then later on contemporary, point, lyrical, and a tiny bit of hip hop). I was one of those little girls who wanted to be a ballerina. I actually had no sense of rhythm at all and my mom sat with me for hours every week clapping out the beat to songs so that I could join the competitive troupe dancers.
What made you decide to take pole dancing classes? My little sister actually took me to my very first pole class. I was visiting her in the city and she was taking classes in silks, contortion, and pole. She invited me to come along to all her classes and I fell in love with pole in the first five minutes. Unfortunately, I lived in a city without any studios that offered any dance classes for adults, pole or otherwise, so I didn’t get back into pole until I moved four years later.
Favorite class? (spins, inversions, or boudoir), and why? Oh, this is a hard one for me… I honestly love them all for the different things they offer. Inversions and spins can be intimidating, but it always makes me feel so incredibly awed by what my body can do and how much strength I really have. Even when I can’t do the move it always gives me new goals to work towards! And the former dancer in me loves all the technical details.
When I stopped dancing for school I missed dance like crazy. I took any fitness class that seemed like it might have dancing in it but nothing really matched up that feeling of dancing. Coming back into it with boudoir hit me so hard. I feel like I had an endorphin rush after my first boudoir class! I was nervous dancing with so many people watching but it felt so freeing to finally dance and really let go with the music. Boudoir is definitely my sanctuary from everything else going on in my life!
What is it that you LOVE about pole dancing at Divine? Honestly? This is going to sound selfish but I love what Divine has given to me. I can’t even explain how much more confident I am and how comfortable I can be in my own skin now. The unconditional acceptance and friendship that I feel from everyone at Divine has definitely changed how I see myself and how I define my flaws.
Platforms or legwarmers? Legwarmers! So cozy and comfortable. Although I love how I move in heels, I still feel like a fawn learning to walk when I put them on. One hand is always on the wall or pole.
What are you currently working on technically? Aerial shouldermount. Thats been on my list of goals for a long time now.
What are you working on artistically? Opening up a little more when I dance. There’s a lot of trust that you have to give in order to open yourself up so completely.
What is your favorite move? Anything I can do on spinny pole!!
What is in your pole bag (ex: grip aid, journal, etc)? Heels, legwarmers, protein bars, grip aid, and a journal I always intend to use to record new pole moves. So far it has a few pages of terrible descriptions and stick figure drawings that I can’t quite decipher.
Do you have a favorite song to pole dance to? I go through song obsessions so my favorite song can change from week to week. Whatever song hits me hard and highlights how I am feeling is what I love to dance to right at that moment. And I will play it on repeat for days at a time! Right now I am still hung up on ‘Love the lonely out of you’ by Brothers Osborne.
We LOVE music at Divine. What 3 songs would be featured on the soundtrack to YOUR life, and why? I’m not sure I could ever really narrow this down to three songs. I made a list to help me and ended up with over fifty. No help. So randomly selected from my list:
-Scarborough Fair by Simon & Garfunkel because of family memories
-Mz. Hyde by Halestorm because someone I love once said that the song suited me and I aspire to be badass enough to actually dance to it one day
-Unsteady by X Ambassadors because it fills me with love
Guilty pleasure: Ice Cream. Always. I could never say no. OMG and carbs!! I love bread and pasta and cinnamon buns!
Final Question: Any inspirational advice you would like to share with new polers? Give it your all. Every single time. Even if your all for the day is rolling on the floor or doing a super slow body trace. If you pour your heart and soul into every move it will feel unbelievable and leave you satisfied and happy.
