Meet Priscilla!
Priscilla came to Divine Movement in 2014 at the end of a summer where she had been testing out various dance classes around the city. She stepped one foot into the studio and has been hooked ever since. She grew up an athlete but always felt a calling to dance and movement which she has felt free and encouraged to explore at Divine, falling deeply in love with the Boudoir style of dance. Dance has become her main outlet of creativity over the years, pushing aside writing and crafting but she has no complaints. She’s found a home at Divine and is extremely grateful to be part of such a wonderful and loving community.
Hometown?
My family is from Kaneohe, Hawaii though I spent equal parts of my childhood in various part of South Korea and consider that to be home as well.
Why do you love Divine Movement?
I love Divine Movement for the community that it has fostered and the support and love that I feel every time I step foot into the studio. The style of movement that the studio has inspired, encouraged and released in me has given me a form of communication that I have been searching for and didn’t know that I would ever find. At Divine, my heart is free and empowered and I’m so happy to be part of such a beautiful community of women who are constantly holding space for each other.
What do you consider your teaching style?
I’m generally a playful and laid-back person. I consider myself to be open-minded in instruction throwing a bit of sing song and goofiness here and there. My main goal with instruction is to expand ideas of possibility, challenging any preconceived notions of how we move and finding angles and shapes in space that feel right. I strongly believe that beauty can be found in a feeling and if you feel good, you’ll look good because you’re being authentically you.
What music is on your “Divine” playlist right now?
Oh my, I should just include a link to my Spotify right here. 😊 My Divine playlist typically rotates around slow, angular, melodic music but currently my top three are Masego – Tadow, Summer Heart – Girl from the Moon and The Acid – Tumbling Lights.
Favorite Food?
Korean Food, particularly soups. I also love fried chicken with rice and occasionally a frozen burrito (guilty pleasure).
What is the farthest you have been from home?
When I was living in Korea I traveled to Florida, that was the furthest I went from a place I called home. I remember looking out the window during one of my flights and seeing a starry night but if I looked behind, I could see daylight. I’m sure there’s a name for that but I don’t know it, it was one of the most amazing sights I’ve ever witnessed.
What was the last time you cried?
I’m a baby when it comes to emotions, I cry at the sight of a beautiful tree, when a group forms for a cause or when certain instruments are played. The last time I cried was this morning.
Guilty pleasure?
I don’t often feel guilty about my pleasures but at the moment, it’s taking myself on movie dates. I have been in the habit of taking myself on date nights but the movies seem a little extra because, without fail, I devour an entire bag of popcorn and a Coca Cola (the only time I drink soda!).
Favorite article of clothing to dance in?
Leggings, leg warmers, oversized sweaters, socks – I love being fully covered.
